Rotating applications present one of the greatest challenges to the sealing industry.

Rotary seals perform two basic functions. The primary function is to retain the lubricant in the system. The secondary purpose is to exclude external contaminants such as water and dirt. Organizations face particular challenges with an increasing number of specialty lubricants appearing on the market today, making seal design and the selection of seal material especially important.

Shaft seals are used in rotary applications, such as a shaft or rotating bore. For more than 40 years ERIKS has supplied oil seals in all possible applications.

A v-ring seal is a one-piece seal which is mounted on a shaft and seals axially against a counterface and normally rotates with the shaft.

The construction of a v-ring seal is divided into three parts:
  1. the body
  2. the lip
  3. the hinge
ERIKS offers v-rings manufactured with four standard profiles.

ERIKS lip seals are specially designed to resist higher pressures than a classic oil seals and can be used with shaft velocities of up to 40 m/s.
